"Little Orphan, Annie" by Mycah Rose

In 2008, I adopted a black lab mix named Annie. This was right after returning from Alaska on a road trip with my whole family (including my current dog and cat).  She was so sweet, adorable, and loyal right from the start.  She was with me for my tween and teen years. I have had many other animals (dogs, cats, snakes, and a chinchilla), but there was something about the way Annie looked in your eyes. The way she followed your lead was so impactful, it was an amazing temperament for a puppy. As she grew up she was always by my side. This meant she would come curl up while I did my breathing treatments, and the vibration of the vest did not deter her one bit. All of this happy talk is so meaningful, but unfortunately Iā€™m here writing about her passing. Annie crossed the rainbow bridge this June, and it was extremely peaceful. She was ready, and thankful (I believe) we could make that decision for her. I plan to paint and bedazzle the paw print in clay we had made. In addition to that I planted a tree in her honor.

Annie did something for a sick child that only a dog could do, and that was to offer support despite all the aspects of the disease. Animals have a big place in the hearts of those who are disabled, and I believe the encouragement keeps us living longer and happier.
